Feed the Need in Durham relies on its volunteers to assist the five staff members. They are a crucial part of our operation and we are truly grateful for each and every person who shares their time and talents with us. We have a wonderful core group of volunteers and are always looking for new additions to our family. We offer a relaxed, warm and friendly environment with the opportunity to give back to your community and help those less fortunate.
The office is open Monday – Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The warehouse is open Monday – Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and until noon on Friday. Our regular volunteers assist with the day to day operations during these times. Opportunities to help with fundraising and building awareness in the community are available occasionally outside of regular hours as events arise.
There are a number of different areas for members of the public to get involved no matter their age, physical limitations, ability level, etc. We aim to match volunteers with work that is both meaningful for the volunteer and necessary for Feed the Need in Durham. Our regular volunteers are involved in the warehouse, sorting donated food, picking orders for our member agencies, organizing inventory, driving trucks to deliveries or to donation pickups.
For volunteers interested in driving the trucks we require a drivers abstract and 3 years of commercial vehicle experience and for those interested in driving the forklift we require a current forklift license.
Volunteers in the office may help with reception, fundraising/communications, donor relations, data entry, research and general office duties.
Our Board of Directors are also volunteers and opportunities to become a board member arise from time to time. Please contact the office directly if you are interested in applying for a Board position.
If you are interested in volunteering please complete the application form below (it may not be submitted electronically) and email to email@example.com or contact the office for further information.
